Congratulations to the KBT Network Award winners 2017!February 13, 2017
We attended the Keep Britain Tidy Network Conference and Awards last week at the Hilton Hotel in Leeds. This annual event has been established since 1990, and encourages sustainability in the hope of driving environmental standards across the country.
This year’s conference presented ideas to deter littering and fly tipping, something that has attracted a lot of media attention. The event was also an opportunity for Keep Britain Tidy to re-launch their modernised Tidy Man logo. Check out his time at the conference on Twitter using the hashtag #TidyMan.
The awards celebrate environmental innovation amongst local authority and businesses, improving the quality of public space through campaigns, innovations and partnerships.
Durham County Council were the big winners on the night, claiming the Local Authority of the Year Award.
Despite financial cuts, the council have been dedicated to improving their local community with a range of projects to change people’s behaviour. Including one project targeted at students that sent 1.5 tonnes of household items to charity shops instead of landfill waste.
They also picked up the Environmental Campaign of the Year Award for ‘Operation Stop It!’ that has lead to a 22% reduction in fly tipping across the county. Working with Crimestoppers, they released CCTV footage of fly tipping in the area – you can watch their campaign video here.
We recently worked with Durham County Council in an attempt to reduce litter. We manufactured MV/40 Square Litter Bins with their specific artwork displaying ‘Keep your County Tidy.’
Dorset Waste Partnership won the Recycling Campaign of the Year. They restructured their previous waste management scheme and eradicated the worst performing areas to offer a better service for the residents of Dorset. This scheme led to a reduction in residual waste from 71% to 37%.
Ashfield District Council won the Community Engagement Award, for their ‘Even Cleaner Streets’ initiative that empowered local people to look after their area.
Here at Wybone, we aim to help as many people as we can to keep their environments clean and rubbish-free. We offer a vast range of litter and recycling units that could help deliver long-term waste solutions.
We were able to help Queensgate Shopping Centre in Peterborough save almost £20,00 annually with a 99% recycling rate.
If you need any help with your recycling strategy or would like to become more sustainable, give us a call on 01226 352333 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
We had a great time at the event – a big congratulations again to all the finalists and winners!
