Festive Spirit at Wybone!

January 4, 2018

The annual Christmas charity events were in full swing at Wybone just 2 weeks ago; where did 2017 go?

Last year was bittersweet for Wybone as we saw great successes as well as the devastating loss of our founder and chairman, Mr Wyatt. In his honour, we focused our festive efforts towards his chosen charity, Yorkshire Air Ambulance. In addition, we also chose to support Animal Crackers for its second year, and had a Christmas Jumper and Bake Day for Macmillan Cancer Support.

We believe that the tireless work that these charities do throughout the year are of great benefit to many people (and animals) close to us and we were happy to bake, dress up and donate to such good causes.

Working with local news outlet We Are Barnsley, we were able to donate a large number of items such as food, beds, treats and toys to 6 different animal charities. Our staff were more than generous in their contributions and just like last year, our Food Donation Bin was overflowing with bags and bags of items for all those cats and dogs that were without a home this Christmas!

Our Christmas coffee morning saw the Wybone team feasting on sweet treats galore and happily putting pound after pound into the donation pot to support the wonderful work that Macmillan nurses do. We raised over £200 with our brownies, cheesecakes, biscuits, meringues and flapjacks!

Finally, the annual Christmas raffle and a festive Wybone lunch was held to raise money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Just over £250 was raised to help the Yorkshire Air Ambulance to continue providing state of the art emergency care.

We’re already looking forward to our next charity event and we hope to encourage others to donate too!

We Are Barnsley – Animal Crackers

The Animal Crackers Christmas Campaign was launched in 2016 and aimed to collect food, toys and accessories for the animals that need them the most. All donations were to be split between local animal charities:

  • Barnsley and District Animal Welfare
  • Barnsley RSPCA
  • Royston Animal Welfare
  • Barnsley Animal Rescue Charity
  • RADAR Dog Rescue
  • Willow Dog Rescue

WAB agreed 15 locations for donations to be collected and a special collection was made for Wybone due to the large amount of donations we had.

Macmillan Cancer Support

Macmillan helps people at all stages of cancer, through diagnosis, treatment and supporting those affected by the devastating condition. For many people, Macmillan nurses improve lives and provide support when it is needed most. Yorkshire Air Ambulance

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance charity plays a vital role in keeping the two emergency ambulances available to Yorkshire when we need them the most! It is surprising to know that in order to keep the ambulances in the air, the charity must raise £12,000 per day; receiving help only through the secondment of paramedics from the NHS via the Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust. This rapid response air emergency services needs the equivalent of £4.4million per year and serves a population of approximately 5 million people.
