Wybone Mega Cycles style the streets of Kensington and ChelseaOctober 10, 2017
We’re passionate about everything we do at Wybone, and offer a flexibility rarely seen in our industry, enabling us to create something unique.
We spoke with Terry Oliver, Head of Greener Living at the council about their requirements and what prompted them to implement new recycling bins. “Previously, the council used 1100 litre euro bins on the streets to collect recycling at sites. However, these were basic wheelie bins – black in colour with recycling signage on the front.”
Terry explained: “We approached Wybone to improve the appearance of these street based recycling centres, as we are very keen to increase recycling rates but were receiving complaints about the appearance of these bins. These large recycling centres provided residents with a valuable additional way to recycle.
We wanted to retain the centres but improve their appearance and functionality. Hence why we contacted Wybone to develop a smart, visually pleasing and location specific housing unit and design for each site.”
The council provided our design team with a range of photographs, including seasonal shots of the Borough, and past photographs of the streets of London. Working closely with the council on their design, they ordered 29 units to be distributed around Kensington and Chelsea.
“Wybone were very helpful and provided the whole package for us, from building and installing the housing units and designing and producing the design graphics for each site. This included producing and applying a local historic image to each unit.”
Our Large Mega Cycle Wheelie Bin Covers are manufactured from galvanised steel and available as 660, 1100 or 1200 litre units; perfect for hiding large unsightly wheelie bins whilst creating a stylish recycling station.
This is a tough, durable unit featuring a reinforced front opening steel door, with a self-locking mechanism and a full length stainless steel rod hinge. Adjustable feet allow for levelling on any surface.
This Large Wheelie Bin Cover is available with steel or Iroko hardwood side panels to give a contemporary look, with several aperture options to collect your chosen waste stream.
An optional food waste chute can also be fitted to keep waste out of view and contain any odours.
Our Mega Cycle Wheelie Bin Covers are ideal for busy environments; we have previously supplied the London Borough of Lambeth with a similar unit, with custom vinyl artwork to the front and larger aperture for bags of general waste.
