About the MLB/224R Eco Metal Litter & Recycling Bin

The 224R-litre MLB Eco Metal Litter Bin

Manufactured using 2mm hot-dipped coated galvanised steel (BSEN10327), your MLB/224R guarantees extreme durability with rust and corrosion-resistant qualities. So you don’t have to worry about your bin getting damaged in bad weather. You can read more about the benefits of galvanised steel here. This bin provides two separate waste streams for general waste and recycling to eliminate the risk of cross-contamination.

The 224-litre size provides generous waste capacity to reduce the need for frequent emptying. We also know how important it is to have an outdoor bin with a lid. You can choose from a standard lid for a subtle, simplistic design. Or a pitched lid, ideal for stopping the collection of rainwater and people leaving waste on top of the unit.

The MLB/224R Eco contains a single-hinged door, using concealed full-length, large-diameter stainless steel rod pivot hinges with frictionless bushes to the top and bottom. And with additional fixing in the centre of the rod, you have an extremely sturdy bin that will stay in place.

The self-locking door that includes a stainless steel slam lock fixed with anti-tamper bolts means operatives don’t have to worry about whether they’ve locked the unit after emptying, and no unwanted critters or pedestrians will be able to gain access.

This unit contains four open apertures for effortless waste disposal and easy emptying.

Looking to size down? This bin also comes in: 90-litres, 112-litres and 160-litres.

FAQs

  • What is the metal bin made from?

This ‘eco’ bin is manufactured from durable, British bought galvanised steel, which is expertly primed, cured and powder coated to offer a superior durability and excellent corrosion resistance. A heavy duty thick steel base provides a sturdy bottom to the bin, which comes pre-drilled for ground fixing. The bin can be securely fixed using rawl bolts or alternatively can be secured with a ground anchor in freshly laid concrete.

These MLB/224R Eco litter bins come with a standard 10 year anti-perforation warranty and a 1 year parts and labour guarantee.

The Eco Litter Bin has smooth sides and collects 224 litres of waste in a premium quality galvanised steel liner. This wide unit is made up of two compartments which can be used for general waste and/or segregated recycling.

  • How do I empty this metal bin?

The MLB/224R comes with a slam lock as standard, and can be opened using a T shaped universal Budget Lock Key. The internal L1 Galvanised Steel Liner feature handles on two sides to make removing and emptying a more convenient task. Once the bin has been emptied, a gentle push on the door will lock it in place.

  • Does this bin come with any warranties?

As with all Wybone galvanised steel litter bins, the MLB/224R comes with a standard 1 year parts and labour guarantee with a 10 year anti-perforation warranty; this guarantees the surface of the litter bin from rusting through completely.

  • Can I customise this metal bin?

This large capacity bin can be used as a standard litter bin or split into two sections to segregate waste and recycling. Choose from the options below to customise your bin depending on the waste you choose to collect or your recycling targets and we’ll do the rest. Specially shaped apertures help the user to identify what waste should be deposited and optional artwork can be used to promote recycling. Choose from the standard, large general waste aperture; keyhole or London Underground aperture for mixed recycling, the slot for paper / magazines and cardboard recycling or the circular aperture for cans and plastic bottles.

As with all of our metal litter bins, these 224 litre eco units can be customised to suit your needs. Our full range of ashtrays can be fitted to the top of the bin to ensure that those areas where smoking is permitted can be kept clean and tidy of cigarette ends. This deters members of the public from stubbing out their cigarettes on the bins, which can be unsightly. Alternatively, a stubber plate can be fitted.

We offer a wide range of steel powder coating paint so no matter what colour scheme you’re working with, we think we’ll have something to suit you; and if we don’t, just ask us for a quote.

Our laser cutting options allow you to really make these bins your own. If you want your logo to be cut into the side, we can do that; or if you want laser cut text, we can do that too.

If you’re looking for a more traditional bin, we can add steel or vinyl banding in gold or silver. We can also add poster frames for advertising.

  • Where can I put this metal bin?

This eco-friendly galvanised steel bin is ideal for outdoor areas like towns and cities. Whether it’s outside a shopping centre, an airport or a post office, the choice is yours!

  • How do I maintain this bin?

These free standing metal litter bins come as standard with a thick steel ground fixing base so they can be placed outside and fixed to the floor if necessary.

A slam lock is fitted to the door of the bin for convenient opening using a simple T shaped, universal key. When operatives are emptying the units the galvanised steel liners can be swiftly pulled out of the bin using the useful metal handle fitted to the front of each liner. Once emptied, the door simply slams shut and locks automatically, so you don’t have to worry about bins being left open.

The bin is fitted with two L1 galvanised steel liners which maximises the capacity of the unit whilst ensuring that the waste bags are not too large or too heavy for operatives to lift.

The reason we use galvanised steel to manufacture our bins is because it provides a superior quality and reassurance that even in harsh weather conditions, these bins will still look great and stand the test of time. The best way to keep your bins looking their finest, is to keep them clean by simply power washing them with water. No detergent or chemicals are required to clean your bins.

  • Does this bin come in a different size?

As part of our MLB Eco range of metal litter bins, we offer the slimline MLB/90 Eco Litter BinMLB/112 Eco Litter Bin and a mid-range duo litter bin; the MLB/160 Eco Litter Bin.

  • What is galvanised steel?

Galvanised steel is the process of taking standard steel and coating it in zinc. This offers a protective layer that prevents rusting. The most common form of galvanisation is hot-dipped galvanising, something we do for many of our steel products. The main differences between standard galvanising and hot-dipped galvanising is that standard galvanising offers a smooth finish. Hot-dipped galvanising involves dipping steel in molten zinc, offering a rough surface finish.

  • Will galvanised steel rust?

Galvanised steel isn’t immune to rust – it will eventually happen. But this form of steel is known for its resistance against rust that you can’t find in other materials. Galvanised steel guarantees a rust-free product for a long time.

  • How galvanised steel is made

Galvanised steel is made by taking standard steel and coating it in zinc. The most common method of zinc coating is hot-dipped galvanising, which involves coating the steel in a molten zinc bath.

  • Advantages of galvanised steel

    Total protection

With hot dip galvanising, every millimetre of the steel it touches is galvanised, which means the hot dip galvanising process reaches areas inaccessible to other similar processes for preventing rusting and corrosion.

    Less maintenance

Using the hot dip galvanising process ensures it will never shrink or crack because it is metallurgically bonded to the steel it protects. It also offers superior resistance to abrasion and water.

    More cost-effective

Even in cases where the initial cost of hot dip galvanising is higher than alternative coatings, hot dip galvanising is more cost-effective in the long term because it lasts longer and needs less maintenance.
