A week’s work experience at Wybone

July 19, 2019

We’ve recently welcomed a group of young litter bin apprentices to our headquarters in Barnsley for their work experience week.

The three boys came from Barnsley Academy and chose to spend their high school work experience week in our offices, understanding how the business works and operates.

They spent time with all departments, helping our production manager with quality labels and the HR team with general office admin.

It wouldn’t be a week in the manufacturing sector, if we didn’t get the boys involved in the processes. Over the course of the week, they were tasked with designing and making a desk clock. They began the process by researching different themes and designs with our marketing team and then creating the design to be laser cut on our high-tech machinery with our CAD/CAM designer.

The boys also had a one-on-one demonstration with the team on our design software such as Photoshop and Solidworks to bring the clocks to life with artwork.

We loved having the group to our factory and we think their clocks turned out brilliantly. One of the three boys, Cameron got in touch with us after his week at Wybone to let us know what he thought; “Thank you for a great work experience, I really appreciate it!”

It was also ‘bring your child to work day’ on the 5 July and our Buyer Simon’s son Finlay spent the day with us. He worked with each department to understand the different roles within the business but also spent the morning in a sunny Elsecar Park taking photographs of one of our litter bins – it’s a first for him we assume!

Take a look at the photographs from their week’s experience, as well as Finlay’s day at Wybone!
