Another batch of wheelie bin covers heading to Glasgow!
November 12, 2019We’ve received another order from Glasgow City Council to design and manufacture a large batch of 360 litre wheelie bin covers.
At the end of 2017, we won the tender to supply our 240 and 360 litre BWB Wheelie Bin Covers to Glasgow City Council. Over 900 wheelie bin covers have already been put into place across Glasgow city centre and six surrounding neighbourhoods.
The tender is part of a £3 million project to replace smaller litter bins around the city with larger capacity wheelie bin covers, increasing the efficiency of their waste management service. Unlike standard litter bins, these covers house wheelie bins, which reduces the need for plastic bags that will end up in landfill along with tonnes of general waste. Our team have been working hard to meet the requirements of the tender, we’ve already manufactured and delivered more than 500 wheelie bin covers in 240 and 360 litre capacities to the council this year. The production of 460 large wheelie bin covers will get underway at the start of December and continue into the new year.
Our BWB Wheelie Bin Covers are manufactured from durable galvanised steel, primed and powder coated in black for general waste and blue for recycling, offering maximum corrosion resistance. The council introduced blue units in public areas to increase recycling opportunities outside communal environments.
Since the wheelie bin covers have been installed, Keep Scotland Beautiful have identified a reduction in litter in the city centre and the six surrounding neighbourhoods.
As a flexible manufacturer, we are able to meet customers’ bespoke requests and we worked closely with Glasgow with the design of their wheelie bin covers. We manufactured this bin with a new pitched lid which also featured a pitched ashtray.
We’ll be working towards the next phase of the contract throughout next year and the programme is scheduled to be completed by December 2020.
