About the FWWB Food Waste Wheelie Bin Cover

The Food Waste Wheelie Bin Cover

Available in 140 litres and 240 litres, the Food Waste Wheelie Bin Cover has been specifically designed for the hygienic collection of food waste and is ideal for communal use.

Disposing of your food waste couldn’t be easier; simply lift the flap using the stainless steel, anti-microbial handle and deposit the rubbish into the wheelie bin. Or you can opt for a foot pedal so you don’t have to use your hands to open the flap. A gas strut is fitted to the lid to ensure a soft closing motion that gives the user enough time to put their food waste safely in the bin as the lid closes gradually.

This food waste bin cover is manufactured using galvanised steel, providing excellent durability, including rust and corrosion-resistant properties ideal for outdoor bins.

The FWWB is available in a range of colours, and comes with optional vinyl or perspex plates to signify that the unit is specifically for the collection of food waste.

Did you know?

An estimated 7.3 million tonnes of food waste ends up in landfill each year and food waste in the UK has increased 4.4 per cent since 2012. The average family wastes £470 a year by throwing away food and drink, and a further £3 billion is wasted by food sectors.

Food waste that is not recycled ends up in landfill, which produces a harmful amount of greenhouse gases that contribute towards global warming and climate change.

That’s why most councils now collect food waste, which is recycled in two different ways. In-vessel composting involves mixing food waste with garden waste and composting it in an enclosed system for up to a month, where it is heated to kill bacteria and then matured for 1-3 months ready to be used as soil.

Another method is anaerobic digestion; this uses microorganisms to break down food waste to give off methane, which is collected and converted into bio-gas and used to generate electricity, heat or transport fuels.

FAQs

  • What is the food waste wheelie cover bin manufactured from?

The Food Waste Wheelie Bin Cover is manufactured from durable galvanised steel with a rod hinged front opening door and slam lock. This stylish cover features a slanted lid, designed to allow rainwater to run off and prevent any rubbish from being left on top of the unit. A lift up flap on the lid helps to contain unwanted odours, with a stainless steel handle that makes opening easy and hygienic.

Disposing of your food waste couldn’t be easier; simply lift the flap using the stainless steel anti-microbial handle and deposit the rubbish into the awaiting wheelie bin. A gas strut is fitted to the lid to ensure a soft closing motion that gives the user enough time to put their food waste safely in the bin as the lid closes gradually.

  • What size wheelie bin is this unit suitable for?

This galvanised steel wheelie bin cover can be manufactured specifically to fit either a 140 or 240 litre wheelie bin. We also do bespoke sizing so if you have different requirements, feel free to send us your specification and we can work around you!

  • How do I empty my wheelie bin when it has this cover on it?

This easy to use unit comes with a T shaped universal key that gives access to the front opening door and allows the wheelie bin to be easily pulled out for emptying. Once the bin has been emptied, the wheelie bin can simply be pushed back into the unit with the lid open and a gentle push on the door will lock it in place.

  • I’d like to customise my wheelie bin cover, is this possible?

All of our products can be tailored to suit your needs, with bespoke vinyl artwork and lettering. Your unit can also be powder coated in any of our standard steel powder coating colours, with anti-microbial paint available on black units.

  • What is food waste?

Food waste is food material that is discarded or unable to be used, food peelings for example, are now required to be recycled separately alongside plastics, paper and glass.

  • How does food waste affect the environment?

Food waste that is not recycled ends up in landfill, which produces a harmful amount of greenhouse gases that contribute towards global warming and climate change.

  • How can I reduce food waste?

One of the easiest methods is to save and store your leftovers; most foods can be frozen for over a month. Food banks are always willing to accept none-perishable foods. One of our favourite projects from environmental charity Hubbub introduced the Community Fridge project; fresh foods can now be donated. Why not see if there’s a community fridge near you? https://www.hubbub.org.uk/Event/community-fridge-network
