FWB/60 Food Waste BinProduct Code: FWB/60/WEB
The FWB/60 Post Mountable Food Waste Bin has been designed for the hygienic collection of food waste and is ideal for being placed in communal areas, parks and picnic locations.
What is food waste?
Food waste is food material that is discarded or unable to be used, food peelings for example, are now required to be recycled separately alongside plastics, paper and glass.
How much food is wasted in the UK?
An estimated 7.3 million tonnes of food waste ends up in landfill each year and food waste in the UK has increased 4.4 per cent since 2012. The average family wastes £470 a year by throwing away food and drink, and a further £3 billion is wasted by food sectors.
What is the food waste bin manufactured from?
The FWB/60 Post Mountable Food Waste Bin is manufactured from durable galvanised steel with a rod hinged front opening door and stainless steel slam lock. The powder coated unit features a slanted lid, designed to allow rainwater to run off and prevent any rubbish from being left on top. A lift up flap on the lid helps to contain unwanted odours and stops animals gaining access to the contents.
Disposing of your food waste couldn’t be easier; simply lift the flap using the stainless steel anti-microbial handle and deposit the rubbish into the polythene liner.
What capacity will this bin hold?
This galvanised steel wall / post mountable bin can hold 56 litres of food waste before it is required to be emptied. This supports manual handling and ensures the food has not been in there for too long before it is emptied.
How do I empty this food waste bin?
Emptying this food waste bin is easy and convenient. The internal polythene liner is accessed via the front opening door; opened using a T shaped universal key that is supplied with the bin as standard. Once the bin has been emptied, simply push the liner back into the unit and a gentle push on the door will lock it in place.
Can this bin be customised?
All of our products can be tailored to suit your needs, with bespoke vinyl artwork and lettering. This bin comes in a choice of three colours; you can choose to have the whole bin in one colour or you can choose a different colour for the bin and the flap. You can add an A4 Food Waste vinyl sticker to the front to show the waste stream and ensure the right waste is put in the bin.

How is food waste recycled?
Most councils now collect food waste, which is recycled in two different ways. In-vessel composting involves mixing food waste with garden waste and composting it in an enclosed system for up to a month, where it is heated to kill bacteria and then matured for 1-3 months ready to be used as soil.
Another method is anaerobic digestion; this uses microorganisms to break down food waste to give off methane, which is collected and converted into biogas and used to generate electricity, heat or transport fuels.
How does food waste affect the environment?
Food waste that is not recycled ends up in landfill, which produces a harmful amount of greenhouse gases that contribute towards global warming and climate change.
How can I reduce food waste?
One of the easiest methods is to save and store your leftovers; most foods can be frozen for over a month. Food banks are always willing to accept none-perishable foods. One of our favourite projects from environmental charity Hubbub introduced the Community Fridge project; fresh foods can now be donated.
