About the Knife Amnesty Bin

The Knife Amnesty Bin

The Knife Amnesty Bin is a purpose-designed secure unit for the collection of knives, blades and other harmful weapons. Manufactured from durable galvanised steel, this bin is ideally placed against a wall and secured with high security locks. The galvanised steel body means this unit is rust & corrosion resistant.

Our Knife Amnesty Bins are fitted with two internal heavy-duty lock bolts that are extremely high security, making it near impossible to gain unauthorised access. These internal locks prevent any tampering, and our discreet key access is unrecognisable, preventing glue, picking tools or other means being used to break in.

Like all our other galvanised steel litter bins, these units are powder coated in your choice of RAL colour, providing additional protection against scuffs and abrasions.

Used by Police Constabularies across the UK, this robust bin features a 30 litre capacity galvanised steel liner. An internal baffle system and one way chute prevent items from being removed once they have been deposited inside the bin.

FAQs

  • What is a knife amnesty?

A knife amnesty is a police driven initiative to get knives and other sharp weapons off our streets. During a knife amnesty, people can hand in their knives at designated locations without any repercussions.

  • How can a knife amnesty bin help?

A Knife Amnesty Bin is a safe and secure way to collect knives and other weapons, whilst ensuring that there can be no access to the contents. The 30 litre capacity can allow for collection of multiple knives before it needs to be emptied.

  • What is this knife amnesty bin manufactured from?

The Wybone Knife Amnesty Bin is manufactured from strong and durable, premium galvanised steel. The 2mm hot dipped galvanised steel ensures a secure manufacture and makes the bin difficult to damage; this unit is built to last!

  • How is this knife amnesty bin secure?

The Wybone Knife Amnesty Bin is manufactured with two extremely high security and heavy-duty lock bolts. These are internally fitted so as to not allow tampering, and with discreet and unrecognizable key access, they are difficult to access with glue, picking tools etc. This system prevents break-ins using bolt croppers and the stainless steel rod hinges have five point welded tie sections preventing unwanted access with crowbars or other prising tools.

An internal baffle system and one way chute prevents anyone from removing items once inside.

  • How does the knife amnesty bin work?

Depositing knives securely could not be easier with this unit; using the chute operation to the front of the unit, once an item is surrendered and deposited inside, it cannot be retrieved without secure access to the chosen method of locking. Internal steel panels (baffle system) ensure the items fall securely into the waiting galvanised steel liner.

The internal liner is fitted with a handle to the front, to make emptying easy and convenient, whilst ensuring no need to touch the contents.

  • Where should I put my knife amnesty bin?

Depending on your campaign, it is up to you where your Knife Amnesty Bin is placed. Many campaigns organise multiple bins to be placed at local police stations for security purposes.

  • What colour can I have my knife amnesty bin?

We’re happy to powder coat your Knife Amnesty Bin in any standard colour. Most of our customers opt for red bins to draw attention to their presence, however we have also provided them in black. We can even paint them in green if you prefer!

  • How do I install my knife amnesty bin?

The Wybone Knife Amnesty Bin comes as standard with pre-drilled holes for ground fixing. We recommend using rawl bolts to secure your unit, however we do have other fixing options available.

  • How can I promote my knife amnesty bin?

We recommend including a poster frame on the front of your bin. This will allow you to post artwork / posters to display information about what to deposit and the campaign you are running. The poster frame makes it easy to interchange your artwork with each campaign.

Once you have your knife amnesty bins in place, the power of social voice is a great way to spread the word about your campaign. We’re always happy to help, so feel free to Tweet us @litter_bins or tag us on Facebook and we’ll help spread the word to our followers!

We’d love to know all about your campaign, such as how many knives you’ve collected and what innovative ideas you’re using to dispose of your collected items.

We were fascinated by Project Zao, which took place in Derbyshire and saw the creation of an angel sculpture from a 6 week knife amnesty. (Read more here: http://www.derbyshire.police.uk/Safety-advice/Personal-Safety/Knife-Amnesty-Project-Zao.aspx) If you want to tell us about your campaign, we’d love to talk to you. • What is the capacity of my knife amnesty bin?

The Knife Amnesty Bin has a 30 litre capacity to ensure all items can be deposited safely and securely – without any unwarranted access and also so that it can be safely emptied without becoming dangerous or too heavy for the person collecting.

  • How do I empty this knife amnesty bin?

Simply unlock your unit and access the contents by operating the front opening door. The internal galvanised steel liner includes a handle to the front, to enable you to pull it out and take it to a secure location for sorting / final disposal.

  • Alternative uses for your Knife Amnesty Bin

Did you know that you can use your bin for collecting more than just knives and weapons? The secure manufacture and chute system on the aperture ensures items can’t be retrieved once they’re deposited. If you’re working in a large organisation or warehouse and have an issue with theft, we recommend using this bin for a theft amnesty – users can deposit their stolen goods before leaving the premises with no repercussions. The contents are secured by an ant-vandal padlock which can only be unlocked by an authorised member of staff to return the goods.

  • What are the benefits of powder coating?

Powder coating has several benefits that make it better than traditional liquid paint. We’ve highlighted four notable strengths of powder coating below:

    Durability

Powder coating is a preferable option compared to traditional liquid paint because, once the coating has been cured, it forms a protective barrier on the applied unit, far more durable than a unit that’s coated with liquid paint. Its solid texture means it has higher resistance against scuffs, scratches, corrosion and colour discolouration/fading.

For our outdoor litter bins, this is crucial. Our steel litter bins are manufactured using galvanised steel – this already provides excellent durability. But the powder-coated finish offers that additional protective barrier, ensuring our bins are left unharmed by extreme weather and frequent use.

    Environmentally friendly

Powder coating is an environmentally friendly process because excess powder can be recycled and reused for future applications, significantly minimising waste. At Wybone, we powder coat all our steel products in a sealed environment, reducing the risk of air pollution.

Powder coating also contains reduced volatile organic compounds (VOCs) when compared to other coatings like paint. These are harmful gases that are formed by high vapour pressure that can irritate the eyes, nose and throat of those that are frequently exposed to these tools.

    Cost-efficient

Since powder coating has the added benefits of durability and versatility, this contributes to the longevity of the unit it’s applied to. This means you’re less likely to empty your wallets to fix or replace a damaged product. In fact, we’re so confident in our powder coating process, we offer a 10-year anti-perforation warranty on all our steel litter bins.

Powder coating is also more time-efficient compared to liquid paint – it can be applied and finished in just one application. Paint, however, would likely need multiple coatings for a full application finish.

    Customisable

We understand the importance of high-quality, bespoke litter bins. After all, they’ll be a part of towns, parks and communal areas for years to come. That’s why our products are highly customisable! Powder coating is known for its versatility, which makes it a useful tool for our litter bins; they come in different shapes and sizes, and powder coating always guarantees a strong, colourful finish.

Whether it’s a gloss, matte or metallic finish, powder coating can be applied with almost any colour in mind. And our powder-coated litter bins are no exception.
