About the MLB/224 Steel Litter Bin

The MLB/224 Steel Litter Bin

A twin version of our flagship MLB/112, the MLB/224 is manufactured using 2mm hot-dipped galvanised steel for rust and corrosion resistance. The 224-litre capacity provides generous waste capacity for areas with high footfall.

All our metal bins are powder coated using a colour of your choice, and our MLB/224R is no exception. Powder coating forms a protective finish that’s tougher than conventional paint – it provides enhanced shielding against knocks and scrapes.

With a range of styled apertures to choose from, the added internal litter deflectors ensures all waste goes correctly into the litter bin.

The large capacity of this metal bin is ideal for busy environments where it may not be easy to empty on a regular basis; areas such as busy city centres and pedestrian areas, as well as parks and recreational sites. The MLB/224 gives a contemporary look and feel, making it the ideal choice for councils in modern areas.

Our MLB Range also includes a 90-litre, 160-litre, 336-litre and 448-litre unit.

FAQs

  • What is this bin manufactured from?

This double litter bin is manufactured from 2mm hot dipped galvanised steel primed and powder coated in your choice of RAL colour, with a stainless steel rod hinge and slam lock as standard. Internal litter deflectors ensure that all waste is directed inside the two internal liners.

This litter bin is also available as a recycling unit, with two compartments separated by dividers to collect separate waste streams.

  • What capacity is this bin?

A large wide aperture to the front and back maximises the 224 litre capacity, which is split into two 112 litre galvanised steel liners. The larger capacity is perfect for busy areas where a more sizable capacity is needed.

  • Does this bin come with any warranties?

As with all Wybone galvanised steel litter bins, the MLB/224 comes with a standard 1 year parts and labour guarantee with a 10 year anti-perforation warranty; this guarantees the surface of the litter bin from rusting through completely. Take a look at the benefits of galvanised steel.

  • Where should I place this bin?

This bin’s large capacity is ideal for busy environments where it may not be easy to empty on a regular basis; environments such as busy inner city centres and pedestrian areas, as well as parks and recreational sites. This litter bin gives a contemporary look and feel, making it the ideal choice for councils in modern areas. This bin also comes with a pre-drilled base for ground fixing; we recommend using RAWL bolts but we do have other fixing options available.

  • How do I empty this bin?

The MLB/224 comes with a slam lock as standard, and can be opened using a universal T-shaped Budget Lock Key. The two internal L1 Galvanised Steel Liners feature handles on two sides to make removing and emptying a more convenient task. Once the bin has been emptied, a gentle push on the door will lock it back in place.

  • Can I customise this bin?

We offer a flexibility rarely seen in the manufacturing industry; this enables us to meet our customers’ requirements. Optional extras include vinyl banding around the circumference of the bin in either gold or silver, or dimples punched to all sides of the unit to prevent fly posters being stuck to the surface.

We even have solutions to stop animals getting inside the litter bin; a raised liner allows room underneath the bin for a rat baiting box. We also have bird flaps to help prevent birds and squirrels from getting inside the bin.

  • What are the benefits of powder coating?

Powder coating has several benefits that make it better than traditional liquid paint. We’ve highlighted four notable strengths of powder coating below:

    Durability

Powder coating is a preferable option compared to traditional liquid paint because, once the coating has been cured, it forms a protective barrier on the applied unit, far more durable than a unit that’s coated with liquid paint. Its solid texture means it has higher resistance against scuffs, scratches, corrosion and colour discolouration/fading.

For our outdoor litter bins, this is crucial. Our steel litter bins are manufactured using galvanised steel – this already provides excellent durability. But the powder-coated finish offers that additional protective barrier, ensuring our bins are left unharmed by extreme weather and frequent use.

    Environmentally friendly

Powder coating is an environmentally friendly process because excess powder can be recycled and reused for future applications, significantly minimising waste. At Wybone, we powder coat all our steel products in a sealed environment, reducing the risk of air pollution.

Powder coating also contains reduced volatile organic compounds (VOCs) when compared to other coatings like paint. These are harmful gases that are formed by high vapour pressure that can irritate the eyes, nose and throat of those that are frequently exposed to these tools.

    Cost-efficient

Since powder coating has the added benefits of durability and versatility, this contributes to the longevity of the unit it’s applied to. This means you’re less likely to empty your wallets to fix or replace a damaged product. In fact, we’re so confident in our powder coating process, we offer a 10-year anti-perforation warranty on all our steel litter bins.

Powder coating is also more time-efficient compared to liquid paint – it can be applied and finished in just one application. Paint, however, would likely need multiple coatings for a full application finish.

    Customisable

We understand the importance of high-quality, bespoke litter bins. After all, they’ll be a part of towns, parks and communal areas for years to come. That’s why our products are highly customisable! Powder coating is known for its versatility, which makes it a useful tool for our litter bins; they come in different shapes and sizes, and powder coating always guarantees a strong, colourful finish.

Whether it’s a gloss, matte or metallic finish, powder coating can be applied with almost any colour in mind. And our powder-coated litter bins are no exception.
