Supporting the NHS in their time of need

We know the nation is currently experiencing the horrible effects of a global pandemic, and we just wanted to share that we’re still here for the NHS. At Wybone we’ve been paying close attention to government advice, and only the staff that are absolutely necessary are still working in our offices. Where possible, our staff are working remotely and following government advice to self-isolate; those of us who are in the office and factory are following strict protocols to remain six feet apart and sanitise our hands between each action. We have also introduced mask wearing.

We’re doing everything that we can to remain open and producing as many healthcare sack holders to support our NHS in this time of need, as we can. As long as it is safe for our staff to do so, we’ll keep doing what we do best – manufacturing!

We’re proud to be a British manufacturer – holding the contract to supply to the NHS for over 20 years – currently producing over 2,000 sack holders per week; that’s twice the volume that our busiest department would usually make. In order to meet this demand Richard Cooper, Managing Director took the difficult decision to cease production on the largely successful metal and glass fibre departments in order to put all efforts towards providing the NHS with much needed PPE bins.

The sack holder department is not unfamiliar with the need to rapidly increase production to meet demand and has successfully supplied thousands of sack holders to trusts throughout the UK for many years.

Back in 2014, the team at Southmead Hospital needed 5,500 Hybrid Sack Holders to furnish their new hospital and we fulfilled their request; we produced the entire order in just over 13 days. Now, as the new £350m ‘super hospital’ in Cwmbran is being brought forward by one year due to COVID-19, we’re manufacturing 1,100 Hybrid Sack Holders to help them. 

Over the past year we have also supported NHS Lanarkshire producing over 3,000 sack holders for hospitals and health centres and we manufactured 1,150 sack holders for NHS Orkney’s new Balfour Hospital.

In these unprecedented times, we’re doing all that we can to fulfil orders for 2,000 Hybrid Sack Holders to be distributed nationwide by NHS Supply Chain, whilst also helping Health Facilities Scotland with almost 700 sack holders and a collective 2,000 more for various trusts in NHS England. The requests are pouring in daily and our teams are working around the clock to manufacture as many sack holders as they can, whilst also sourcing materials and ensuring we have the components required to keep going.

This week we have introduced a new sack holder production line, taking team members from other areas to increase our capabilities further.

We want to help as much as we can and we hope that everyone is staying safe. We’re grateful to our many other customers for their patience, whilst we continue to support the NHS.
