Giving Back to Our Community: Wybone Benches Join the Forest of Bewilderment at Wentworth Woodhouse

Just a few miles down the road from Wybone HQ, something rather magical has been taking shape.

Wentworth Woodhouse, one of South Yorkshire’s most iconic historic landmarks, has been busy transforming a corner of its gardens into an immersive woodland play space for children and families — the Forest of Bewilderment. And we’re proud to say we’ve played a small part in helping bring it to life.

A Woodland Made for Wonder

If you haven’t come across it yet, the Forest of Bewilderment is a brilliant natural play area nestled within the grounds of the estate. It’s packed with sensory activities, interactive installations, and hidden paths designed to get children exploring the outdoors — and it’s been created with accessibility and inclusivity in mind right from the start.

It’s not just a great day out — it’s also been a real community effort. Volunteers from across the region, local artists, and charities have come together to shape the space, and the result is a truly joyful place to be.

Our Donation: 2 Wheelchair Accessible Benches

We knew as soon as we heard about the project that we wanted to get involved — especially with the focus on inclusivity. So we donated two of our wheelchair accessible picnic benches to help make the woodland as welcoming and usable as possible for every visitor.

Designed to allow wheelchair users to join family and friends comfortably around the table, these benches are more than just a place to sit — they’re a way to bring people together. They’re durable, practical, and made right here in South Yorkshire by our team at Wybone.

We’ve always believed that public spaces should work for everyone, and it’s something we build into every product we make — from inclusive design principles to the materials we choose. So it felt only right to offer something that would help make this brilliant space even more accessible.

Seeing the Benches in Place

We were lucky enough to visit recently and see the benches in situ — tucked beneath the trees and surrounded by all the sights and sounds of the woodland. It was lovely to see families stopping to take a break, share a picnic, or just enjoy being outdoors together.

Knowing that our benches are helping to make those moments a little easier for everyone is something we’re really proud of.

We were also delighted to be featured in Wentworth Woodhouse’s official Thank You to the Funders brochure, alongside all the individuals and organisations who supported the renovation. It’s a real celebration of local generosity, and we’re chuffed to be part of it.

A Small Gesture, Close to Home

At Wybone, we design and manufacture all our products right here in the UK — and when we say we care about our local community, we really mean it. Supporting a project just 15 minutes from our doors, that gives back to families across the region, felt like the perfect fit.

If you’re planning a visit to Wentworth Woodhouse, we’d definitely recommend a stroll through the Forest of Bewilderment. And if you’d like to take a moment to enjoy the forest, look out for the Wybone benches towards to house-end of the trail.
