We’re working with Hubbub and McDonalds to support grassroots football

June 25, 2018

We’ve been working with environmental charity, Hubbub for over a year now and we’ve helped them with some great projects and initiatives in that time. Most recently, we’ve supported their grass roots football initiative – sponsored by McDonalds, to provide 21 football clubs with litter and recycling solutions.

Karina Toolan, Project Coordinator at Hubbub explained: “We partnered with McDonalds to encourage young football players to #LoveWhereYouPlay and bin their litter. We did this by rewarding people with a green card for binning their litter, and anyone found littering was given a red card by our ‘litter referees’.  The Goal Bins were created as a means to gamify putting litter into bins.”

We worked closely with the charity to meet their bespoke requirements, adapting our flagship Barnsley Bin with a novel football net to encourage children and adults to correctly dispose of their litter.

Manufactured from robust galvanised steel, primed and powder coated in McDonalds brand colours, with vinyl artwork displaying the ‘Love Where You Play’ campaign and the local sponsored football team. The wire ‘goal’ style top is also manufactured from galvanised steel and powder coated in white, and acts as a deflector to ensure any rubbish that is thrown lands inside the bin.

McDonalds and Hubbub introduced these litter bins last year as part of their grassroots community football days. We’ve recently introduced green units for recycling, which will be placed at McDonalds restaurants around the UK and at upcoming community football days this Summer.

These new units have a 112 litre capacity and two separate compartments for general waste and mixed recycling, with a divider in-between that keeps the waste segregated to avoid cross contamination.

These new Goal Bins will be involved in ‘recycling penalty shootouts’ – the challenge is to choose a football, which has an image of a piece of litter and score a goal in the right goal post, choosing between litter and recycling.

Karina added: “This year, these bins have been updated to be split, with a recycling aperture – our representatives are now ‘recycling referees’- encouraging people to bin their litter and disposing of any recyclable litter they may have.”

We’ve also sent Hubbub our Flat Pakka Bins with bespoke vinyl artwork for their community sports days – these are temporary pop-up litter bins that are lightweight and can be easily moved to collect litter in various locations.
