London Borough of Harrow have received over 400 Artemis Wheelie bin covers that they are using to collect food waste across the borough, with their final number reaching upwards of 600.

There has been a big push by the London Mayor around food recycling, and this is being supported by many of the London boroughs. A lot of them are putting these units into place in estates, flats, high rise accommodation, and other areas where large volumes of food waste can be collected.

There’s also a big change in food legislation coming into play by 2023, these changes mean that food waste will be collected separately from other waste streams in all households, businesses & organisations.

An article from the Defra Press office states “Our recent consultation on household and business recycling consistency found that if all local authorities provided kerbside food waste collection, the amount of food waste collected would increase by 1.35m tonnes by 2029 – reducing greenhouse gas emissions by an estimated 1.25 million tonnes per year.”
