Wybone supports local organisation to remember the First World War

November 15, 2018

We’ve sponsored the Home from the Front project running in Elsecar to commemorate 100 years since the end of World War One.

University Campus Barnsley and Travel and Tourism students at Barnsley College have created a living history project to remember the end of the first world war, featuring authentic steam rail journeys and an Armistice Day tea.

The team behind the project, Julie and Olly, have been working hard to create a commemoration over two weeks in November to remember and educate the public on the end of WW1 and share stories from those who remember the end of the war in Barnsley.

We were more than happy to donate to the cause and as a result were kindly presented with a pair of tickets to their wartime train journey at Elsecar Heritage Centre.

The steam rail journey featured actors portraying local people, telling their stories of the war and returning home – recreating life in South Yorkshire a century ago.

We wanted these tickets to be enjoyed to the fullest, so we got in touch with our local school Hoyland Springwood and donated the pair of tickets to be won in their school assembly – we were informed that the winners of the tickets had a great time at the event!

We love supporting local projects and taking part in charity work to raise money for both local and national charities; we recently held our annual coffee morning to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
